Stephen Clark

Recipient of the 2016 Sir James Galway Rising Star award and 1st prize winners of both the IMKA Music Competition, Alexander & Bueno International Flute Competition and Royal Scottish Concerto Competition, Stephen Clark is one of few flute players to launch a truly international solo career. Born in Glasgow, Scotland he studied at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, Royal Northern College of Music and in both America and Switzerland with Sir James Galway.

As a soloist he performs over 200 concerts each year and to date has performed in 118 countries across 6 continents. Regularly invited to perform at flute festivals, he has given solo recitals at both the Conventions of the British Flute Society and the National Flute Association of America and the Sir James Galway Flute Festival in Switzerland. He made his recital debut at New York’s Carnegie Hall in May 2018.

Stephen is proud to be an Ambassador for the Music for Youth Initiative of Scotland and Honorary President of the Lisburn Flute Orchestra in Northern Ireland. In addition to his engagements as a classical musician he has performed alongside several popular music artists including Annie Lennox, Andrea Bocelli and pop band McFly. He has recorded for Classic FM, Linn Records, Naxos and has released 2 solo albums on the Voyage Record label. Regularly invited to give masterclasses, Stephen has been at guest at many festivals and music academies across Europe, America and Australia.

In 2015, Stephen was accepted into the Recording Academy of America and is now a voting member in the Grammys. Stephen has appeared on screen as the flute player in both the BBC's period drama series "Desperate Romantics" and the feature film "Miss Marple - The Secret of Chimneys". Stephen is a European Altus Artist and plays on a 14k gold flute made by the Altus flute company of Japan.
